Hello and welcome! I'm Katherine Wilson, an Admissions Counselor and proud alumna of Washington College. I am delighted to know that you are interested in our great school!
Washington College is an exceptional institution allowing students to generate in-depth academic experience in the field/s they choose to explore. As a small, private and highly regarded liberal arts school we offer valuable skills through a personalized education. My great esteem for Washington College stems from the personal growth I encountered in my four years here as a student. Each student can explore a great variety of campus activities among the arts, humanities, popular interest and academic clubs, and visiting lecturers. Many of these extracurricular choices will conveniently fit into students' weekly schedules, without the threat of loosing free time. As a small school, our college enjoys an enviable prime location in historic Chestertown among beautiful Maryland countryside. Close by the lovely Chester River, we are yet within an hour and a half of Philadelphia, Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington D.C.
You may be wondering what your admissions counselor was involved in as a Washington College student. After rowing competitively for my high school (just outside of Philadelphia, PA) for four years, I fell in love with Chestertown's waterfront which hosts WC's nationally-ranked Division III rowing team. I spent four beautiful years on the team holding leadership positions and traveling up and down the East coast for races. Academically, I enjoyed the freedom given to underclassmen to explore the various programs offered through our liberal arts education. After my first Sociology class I quickly grew passionate about this study of human interaction. From then on I focused my studies around Sociology and Anthropology. This past year I returned as an interim Assistant coach, before bicycling across the U.S.A. with three students. I can genuinely say that choosing Washington College was one of the best decisions I have ever made. This excellent, engaging, and welcoming school has enabled me to acquire the skills and confidence necessary to balance everything I love to do and learn throughout life.
I know that the college selection process is often an overwhelming time for high school students as you narrow your search to a college-home. Please know that as your admissions counselor I am here to answer any questions that may arise as you further your search.
